What makes the Siirt pistachio special
Large, plump kernels, easy-opening shells and a soft taste: what sets the Siirt pistachio apart? A short guide from orchard to table.
When it comes to pistachios in Turkey, there are two names that come to mind first: Antep and Siirt. They are both fruits of the same tree species (Pistacia vera), but the difference in soil, climate and variety they grow on also changes the flavor that comes to the table.
Large and plump grains
The most easily noticeable feature of Siirt pistachio is the size of the grain. It completely fills the round, plump inner shell; when you take it in the palm of your hand, you immediately feel the difference.
Easy-to-open shell
Most of the Siirt pistachios crack spontaneously while ripening in the tree. These “main cracked” grains open easily with the nail; they are easy to eat and easy to present.
A soft and sweet flavor
The inside of Siirt pistachio is lighter and softer than Pistachio. Its natural fat content is high, leaving a slightly sweetish taste that dissipates in the mouth. Pistachios, on the other hand, are smaller, greener and have a more pronounced aroma; they are often preferred especially in dessert making.
Orchard-to-table: the difference in freshness
Another factor that determines the flavor of pistachios is the time after harvest and roasting care. We collect our pistachios from our own orchards, extract them and roast them ourselves. The product keeps its freshness as it reaches you directly without any intermediaries.
Which variety to choose?
- Main crack roasted: Most plump grains, easy-to-open shell; first choice for snack bowl.
- Crack-roasted pliers: Same flavor, more economical; ideal for crowded tables.
- Main crack raw: To apply your own roasting recipe or to use in desserts and dishes.
- Indoor dew: Economical option for cracking and roasting yourself and storing for a long time.
